A reader shared with me about the challenge her left handed child has with drawing.  She introduced her child to kids drawing stencils, thinking that those would help, but found that the child had difficulty using them.

Try Doodle Art For Kids

My suggestion to her was to let her child focus on Doodle Art For Kids.  Eventually, the child will move away from doodling.  In general, this activity gives satisfying results to children and adults who doodle.

In this post I share a review of a Doodle Art For Kids mat: AquaDoodle – Draw N Doodle – Classic Mat.  We all know that kids love to doodle.  That’s their first art draw, or we may say scribbling.  Doodling doesn’t stop at this stage though.  For some people, it goes right up to adulthood.

Educational Toy

For one thing AquaDoodle is a great educational toy to help kids focus.  In particular, there are several ways to use this mat.  Kids draw on it, they learn “ABC.”  In addition they also learn words based on the drawings and the “ABC.”  Likewise they learn to count using the sheet that is in the package.  In like manner, children also learn the names of the images at the edge of the mat.

Identically, the AquaDoodle drawing mat is also called water drawing mat offers doodle art ideas.  Specifically, it is designed for children to practice early learning concepts with pictures to paint, letters and numbers to trace and write.  It is for all those little aspiring artists.

  • Little kiddos lose the pens easily, so have a designated place to keep them.
  • Pen caps get lost easily unless you keep really good track of it.
  • Limited options
  • Fabric that you ‘color on is wearing in the creases and I haven’t had that long.

They can copy the pictures around the edge and then color their names in the alphabet around the edge. Likewise they can repeat the letters on the mat too. I love the fact that there is no need for coloring accidents.

It beats washable markers, and it is easier to use than crayons.  You can take it on a short or long car trip to keep kids occupied.  Certainly it is great to take along on visits and no need to worry about accidents in other homes.

Interesting! Thanks for sharing. I like the concept. My kids draw like crazy, and the pile of drawings is just increasing. The aqua doodle mat could be a good way to save some paper. 😉

I’ve been a high school art teacher for many years. In the beginning of my career I was drawn to the elementary level because of the freshness of the age group. I ultimately chose high school because I could do more sophisticated things with the art students.
I’ve enjoyed looking over your article and the information you have here. In truth, a tiny part of me wishes I had chosen the younger students.

I did high school teaching for some years too, then moved to elementary to make my contribution to the younger ones.  I enjoyed teaching both groups, but had a blast with the younger students.

This is such a cool product. My niece will love it. She doodles all the time on newspapers and empty envelopes – I think we need to find a dedicated drawing space for her. She’s at the age where drawing as an expression is important.

The ink does dry out very quickly uh? Well I don’t think she minds anyway. It’s the fun of it that matters.

So where can I buy this product?

I am sure your niece will enjoy a dedicated drawing space and a doodle mat will be a welcomed one.  With the Aqua Doodle Mat, she will not have to worry about the ink, just fill the pen with water & draw on mat.  The magic pen requires no ink.  Drawings magically disappears and you doodle again and again.

I love the AquaDoodle Pad! We’ve had a few of them over the last several years and they have been great for expanding my 3 daughter’s artistry. Even though there is an age gap, we have 7-year-old twins and a 3-year-old now, I felt like this toy was adaptable to any age. Honestly, my wife and I enjoyed playing with them too, and it was a way for the whole family to play creatively together!
Ours seemed to hold up pretty well and I didn’t mind the price, but we did lose the pens all the time so I agree with that con. Great article and I hope it gets more people to try the AquaDoodle with their kids.

      Hi Matt,

I am happy to hear that you and your wife joined in the fun of doodling with your kids.  I sometimes doodle with my nieces and nephews too.  The Aqua Doodle Mats can last for a long time as long as care is taken when in use.  Having a specific place to keep the pens after use would be good.

I really like this product. I’m going to buy it for my little niece and nephew. I don’t know If this was around when my son was a little guy but he would have loved it! Maybe I’ll also look into getting something to keep the pens in for after use so they won’t lose them. Thanks for the review!

      Hi Mia,

This is a great product for your little niece and nephew to enjoy doodling.  I am sorry that these doodle mats probably weren’t around for your son when he was a little guy.  No doubt he would enjoy using one back then.  Hope you will get a storage kit for those pens.

      Hi Satria,
My aim is to write about creative activities that kids can do to take a break from the gadgets. This is important for them less they think that technology is the only way to go for everything creative.
