Spirograph Junior Review

Spirograph Junior

Spirograph Junior fascinates young creative minds to create stunning designs.

In case your child is getting bored with a toy, it is time for a change.  In my last post, I looked at the Spirograph Deluxe Design Set suitable for ages 8 years and up.  Surprisingly, many readers told me how enjoyable it is and asked for a recommendation for the younger ones.

In this post I look at Spirograph Junior which is suitable for ages 3 years and up.  Indeed this is an excellent toy for this age group.  Certainly it keeps those little hands  busy, and older kids and adults will also be mesmerized and join in the fun.

Captivating Toy

Amazingly, as Spirograph Junior captivates younger kiddos they draw impressive designs too.  Undoubtedly these kids work completely on their own and come up with some really nice images.  As a matter of fact you too will be very pleased with it.

Granted that this drawing toy is excellent for kids to enjoy creating cool pictures, you do not get tired of seeing the patterns of dazzling art.  In the first place kids are very creative with the disks and colors.  Even after several months they still enjoy creating designs with Spirograph Junior.

It is important to realize that this Spirograph Game for younger kids comes with chunky stencils.  Specifically designed these fit tiny hands perfectly.  Certainly this makes it easy for aspiring kiddie artists at heart.  Again, the chunky pieces are easy for them to hold and move.  After all, little kiddos  make simple geometric designs with Spirograph Junior.

To emphasize, Spirograph Junior is specially designed with jumbo wheels and gears for kiddies to have a good grasp.  With this intention kiddos comfortably hold the shapes to draw.  Notably, this game features a drawing tablet that holds the gears in place.  Additionally it serves as a drawing desk and a storage case to keep things neat.

Albeit the pieces fit inside the case in specific spots so you know if something is missing.

What’s in the Package?

The package includes:

4 large spirograph gears and gear ring

5 washable art markers

8 page design guide book

24 pages of design paper

1 carry-along case with built-in design desk

Storage and gear frame

Immediately little aspiring artists start beautiful spirograph patterns once they have this kit in hand.  The fact that this game is a portable design station makes it easy to travel with.  Wherever kids  go, they carry it along to use.  Bear in mind that the gears are enclosed in a sturdy frame, so they won’t break.

Pros: Skill Building

Actually, as kids hold the art markers in place and rotate the gears to draw, their fine motor skills  develop.

Boost Kids Creativity

Incidentally, when children select the colors and gears, they predict the outcome of their design.  Visual spatial skills also develop as they watch the geometric patterns emerge.

Easy Designs From Spirograph Junior

It is important to note that the drawings are simpler than those obtained with the regular Spirograph.

Perfect For Travel

The size of the pad is perfect for travel.  It is super easy to carry along.

Flexibility

Even though a special paper size is recommended, you can use any size paper or cut your own.  Kids use regular pens, pointed colored pencils and gel pens to vary their creative designs too.  In fact these add stunning looks.

Left handed kids use this art kit as well.   As long as they have the dexterity to make circular motions, they are fine with it.  Just give them that extra push if needed, and they get it right.

Cons

  • Kids who love drawing will run out of paper quickly so you will have to stock up often.  There are too few paper sheets with the kit, so a refill offer would be good.

To solve the problem however, you may use the usual printer paper.  It works just the same.

  • The holes in the gears are made specially for felt tip pens and markers.  Gel pens can work, but the fit would allow the pen to wander around, and may make the drawings look sloppy.  Extra guidance may help to reduce sloppiness.

Despite the few negatives which are no big deal, I highly recommend Spirograph Junior for little kiddos. Again, this well made kit is in a sturdy case and keeps pieces together.  It has a good variety of gears and the paper sits snuggly in the frame, so kids will love it.

Young children will play with this Spirograph game and make basic designs like crazy.  Kids use up a lot of paper within a short time, so prepare to stock up.  This toy cuts out boredom.  Surely it will keep kids busy.
