Super Spirograph 75-piece Jumbo Kit 50th Anniversary Edition Review

In case you are not mesmerized by spirograph designs yet, I know you will soon.  Truly I have and that’s why I have been writing about them.  Of course it’s another way for children to be creative with drawing especially if they don’t feel comfortable with freehand drawing techniques or with the use of kids drawing stencil.

Following my last posts on different editions of Spirographs, a reader asked for more, so I hope this  Super Spirograph 75-piece Jumbo Kit 50th Anniversary Edition  will bring more fascination.

Important to realize that Super Spirograph 75-piece Jumbo Kit 50th Anniversary Edition has a gold-colored metal Spirograph gear included in the box.  Notably this Super Spirograph Kit is commemorative of Spirograph’s 50th anniversary.  To explain, the kit comes with unique arcs that snap together to form a variety of curves.  Watch the short video below for a demonstration.

Be that as it may, you can make even more spirograph designs.  Surely this kit has more shapes and offers even more fun.  Therefore you will design to your heart’s content.

Pros:

On the positive side, here are some key points worth noting.

Provides Blast of Fun

No doubt children will absolutely love this drawing toy.  Assuredly, if kids had never used anything like this before, they will love this one.  As a matter of fact it offers non stop fun for hours.

Ultimate Math Based Toy

Another key point to note is this 75-piece Jumbo Kit 50th Anniversary Edition is the ultimate math based drawing toy for all ages.  Again it is Spirograph complete, totally awesome for kids to have more fun.  Then again this super kit is comprehensive.  Certainly there are many pieces to choose from.  In fact this may very well be the Spirograph kit for you to become better at making Spriograph patterns. Obviously the key is to practice.

Great Family Toy

Super Spirograph 75-piece Jumbo Kit 50th Anniversary EditionEven though this kit may be a bit difficult for an eight year old to start with, it will make a great family toy.  In case you are looking for a fun time drawing with the family, then this is the toy to try.  Indeed it is awesomeness in a fun nostalgic way.  Undoubtedly this will give children encouragement to draw creatively.

In general kids who love to draw and design will not run out of spirograph design ideas.  Hence this super drawing kit will take spirograph lovers to an extraordinary high level.  By all means you will do it with the variety of interchangeable spiro-tracks and twice as many gears as the Original Spirograph.  How cool is that?

Lifetime Experience

Actually a friend told me about her experience using the original spirograph as a child many years ago.  As a result of her experience and now fifty years later, she is able to do decorative flourish that goes around a framed certificate or photograph.  Thereupon, she is still having fun with spirograph patterns today.  Of course she has now bought Super Spirograph Jumbo Kit 50th Anniversary Edition.

Cons

Durability Concerns

Like many original products from back then, the Super Spirograph Jumbo Kit 50th Anniversary Edition may not look as durable.  Nevertheless, this kit still offers the fun and if much care is taken, it will certainly last a long time.

Well, that’s reasonable thinking because nothing we buy these days can be compared to the durability of products back in those days.  Remember that like any other toy we have to guide children to take care when they are using it.

Challenge For Some Kids

Drawing with a Spirograph kit can be very simple for those who can use it well, or it can be very complicated.  Considering that the plastic rings and gears seem to be much thinner these days, some kids may not have developed the manual finesse that is required to use the different pieces.

Bear in mind that they may find it difficult to control the thin plastic rings as they move around.  Besides this can be a real challenge for eight year old starters.  In this case they need to use a light touch to keep the teeth lined up.  Surely this may be a tricky operation for them.  Being that this may be so, then you can get a kit that is easier to use here.  Likewise another kit of a higher level is also available here.

Another key point to note is that some kids may not get to complete the patterns accurately and this may cause some discouragement.  However, when they get the hang of it, they will be creating great spirograph designs.

In concept the the Super Spirograph Jumbo Kit 50th Anniversary Edition is no doubt a great drawing toy.  Surely this is perfect for children ten years and up as well as adults.   Basically if kids have a problem using a ring, then a solution is to glue it temporarily to the paper with rubber cement.  This works well.  A little smelly and messy though, but no big deal.

Overall, the Super Spirograph Jumbo Kit 50th Anniversary Edition makes a great gift.  It offers enjoyment several times over.

    Hello there,
I absolutely loved spirograph art as a kid and am still drawn to it when I see it today! It reminds me of whirly-gigs I have in my yard! It is a very relaxing form of art. It is more relaxing than the popular adult coloring books we see everywhere, those are a bit too difficult and take forever to finish. Spirograph is so interesting and when done with multiple colors they look beautiful enough to frame! They do seem to be more detailed than when I was a child, is it best to not overlap any of the designs? I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to try? Realistically what age is good to test these out? Thanks so much 🙂

      Hi Kris,
I agree with you. Spirographs are relaxing and you get more out of it than the adult coloring books. It opens up a new world of design possibilities. It certainly won’t hurt to try over-lapping designs. Anyway you do it, the designs will be absolutely beautiful. The recommended age for the Super Spirograph is 8+, but there is the Spirograph Junior for kids from age 3+.

Woah! Spirographs. I used to absolutely love these things as a kid! I actually had no idea that they still made them, and they have a heck of a lot of really cool new options, I only remember the old 100% circular ones. Thanks for sharing this information, I’m going to get this for my best friend’s kid, his 6th birthday is coming up next week!

      Hi Craig,
Spirographs are really cool. They came back better than before even though some people prefer the older model. Kids need to have this toy because it helps so much with their creativity. I have no doubt that your friend’s child will enjoy it.

Wow I haven’t seen Spirographs in over 25 years, I didn’t know they still made them! Thanks for bringing this to my attention, Carol. My youngest would love this for Christmas, which conveniently is right around the corner. For 33 bucks, that’s a steal…especially if I can get him off his video games for a few hours! Love the post too, very informative.
