Of course this brings back pleasant childhood memories.  Unquestionably, some of us remember using these plastic toys with many holes.  First we would put a pencil in one of the smaller holes.  Following that we would turn it around until it gets inside the larger gear.  Surprisingly we would create an interesting pattern of circles.

Continuous Fun

Naturally it was continuous fun taking turns as we use Spirograph for kids.  Besides we would compete to see who would come up with the most beautiful design.  After a few hours of continuous wheel turning we created several different designs of circles. Obviously a stunning pattern of colors emerged and we were quite excited about our work of art.

Interestingly, this award winning toy which was developed many years ago is back with a lot of buzz. Surely kids are using it and having lots of fun.

Another important point about Spirograph For Kids is that it’s not only an awesome drawing tool, but in the process of creating designs, kids also build math skills.  Undeniably those fancy curves that kids draw demonstrates some practical math concepts.

Accordingly kids are learning some geometric math skills while they play with this art toy.  Therefore when kids are turning those spirograph gears to create bold patterns, they are experimenting and learning math.

Spirograph For Kids or Stencil Art

Gosh, I loved these things when I was a kid. I totally forgot how much fun they were until I ran across this. I used to spend hours and hours with different colors drawing the most overlapping spirals I could! things were so much simpler as a kid weren’t they?

I’ve been keeping an eye on my friend’s 5 year old a lot recently and these are the perfect idea to help pass the time when we don’t have anything else planned to do! Thanks so much for resurfacing them into my memory!

      Hi Craig,
The fact that reading this post about Spirographs brought back pleasant childhood memories means that you really had fun drawing with them. I had much fun with them as a child too. that’s one of the reasons I am writing about the beauty of kids using them. I don’t think any child will forget the fun. Hope the fun of spirographs can be passed on to your friend’s 5 year old too.

Oh my gosh I remember these! I used to play with it all the time. I didn’t even know they still existed. What a great thing to bring back front and center instead of video games and cell phones which the kids learn to use at a very young age! This may just be on my Christmas list for some of the grand kids this year! Way to go Carol, great job!!

      Hi Christine,
The Spirograph was relaunched in 2013. Since then it has regained popularity and has won awards. A Spirograph kit will make a great gift.
